ARTIST STATEMENT

INSPIRATION:  In the begining, the choice of my art practice was inspired by my  intense desire to paint but often hounded by financial difficulties. This is how the idea of paper recyling as a cheaper alternative to the unaffordable traditional painting mediums at the time dictated my choice of art practice...Paper Collage Painting.

The process of play with bits and pieces of paper  on a canvass or board to create an artwork that gives an impression of...'as though an oil painting' is as challenging as its intriguing! The continuous process of search and experimentation can be very fascinating!

Over the past 3years, this fascinating process has had its way with me, filling me with a sense of accomplishment and integrity, and has proven the most compelling means to express my inner vision to outer reality. .

Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, its the repetitive nature of this work that breathtakingly frees my imagination and provides many opportunities for happy accidents and grace to influence the finished piece.

Turning the hands of the clock to 4yrs ago, it was a really different story. I took months to finish a single art work. A case in Point is paintings entitled, The black Calabash, Innocent, Born In Africa 003.

Now, buoyed with confidence and experience reaped from the steady continued practice, and awed by the mystery of how creation occurs, I am now creating paintings that exhibit freeness, vigour, character, exploring many patterns, textures and colors. This can forexample be traced through paintings entitled, Needy Girl, Power of the Gospel, Grandma,

The subjects of paintings, are inspired by day to day life, gender, cultural and the enviromental issues. The basic production materials are Colored Papers as my painting palette, Wood glue, and paper cutters

I'm now creating paintings under the theme, THE IMPACT OF POVERTY AND AIDS ON MOTHERHOOD IN UGANDA which will feature for my first solo exhibition at Makerere university gallery in 2009.

MY MISSION

The biggest mission of my art is to professionally excel, but most importantly to become an icon, an agent of change and inspiration to the younger artists and the artsy world at large.  To help young aspiring professional artists in Uganda and inspire all others around the globe most especially those from poor countries that they should not let their creative talents rot in the closet of their minds  just because they lack the resources or financial means to do so.

There are many alternatives and possibilities. They should first of all have to faith and belief themselves. And they should Think! That is why it's my mission to continue exploring more cheaper alternatives, as well as seek to interact with other artists and top professionals from different parts of the world, to explore new ideas and possibilities.
